My goal is to build you a great-looking custom website that is also affordable

Using the Weebly development platform and drawing on templates I have created for my previous clients, I can create a great-looking custom website for you at the lowest possible cost, and save you money on maintenance in the long-run.

Websites have four cost components:
  • Development: Building the site is the most significant (and variable) cost.  The first page is the most expensive, because that's where we create the "look and feel" that flows through rest of the site.  Weebly's drag and drop web tools speed up building the basic structures, allowing me more time to customize the elements that give the site the look you want.   A ten-page site like those in the portfolio sidebar typically costs less than $1,000 to develop.
  • Domain Name Registration:  Every website needs a unique address.  Registering the address keeps it available  to the public.   It costs about $10 to $15 per year to maintain  domain name registration.
  • Hosting and Service Plan:  Web hosting allows you to post your website on the Internet.  The service plan defines the supported features, such as site search tools, video support, etc..  Services like Weebly combine hosting and service plan fees, which range from free to $25/month depending on the services you need.
  • Maintenance: As your needs change, so must your website.  Periodic maintenance keeps your site up-to-date with the information and features you want your visitors to see and use.  The cost of maintenance can vary considerably.  You can either hire someone (usually the person who built the site) or, with an easy-to-use application such as Weebly, you can do it yourself.   I will give you access to the site during development, and after the site is up and running I will train you in how to maintain it.    When you are fully satisfied and feel confident to take it over I will transfer ownership to you.  Of course, I will remain available to support you and make any changes or upgrades you want help with.  In the long run, this will save you a lot of money.

If you are an artist, activist or author, have a product or service to sell, or want a website for any reason at all, this is the cheapest possible way to do it.

Even if you only need the site for a short while, for example to sell your house or promote an event, it is still affordable.

A little bit about me...

Personal:   My wife, Jane, and I live with our daughter and two granddaughters on "Beautiful Whidbey Island". We have two dogs, a dozen cats, a couple of geese and about 40 chickens that roam around the property.  We also care for 14 rescued pet goats.

I am a strong advocate for sustainability and community building.  I believe in local businesses that give back to their community.  I am currently promoting two startups -- Hyperlocal Community Classifieds,  is designed to return fully a third of its profits back to its host communities to fund good works and Global Action Connection, designed to enhance and coordinate the efforts of progressive organizations worldwide.

Professional:  I have an MBA and a Masters in Education and Psychology.  My teaching career focused on Special Education; my business career focused on business systems architecture, application and database design and project management.  Much of my IT work was as a consultant/contractor in Silicon Valley for major corporations such as Oracle, Sun Microsystems and Lockheed, as well as various startups.  I have spent about 20 years in each of these two professions, switching back and forth as circumstances dictated.

After moving to Whidbey Island about 15 years ago, I continued with teaching and tech work.  About eight years ago I learned html, css, php and mysql and began creating web sites from scratch.  Then I discovered Weebly...

"Jim took my text and design ideas, gave me some helpful comments, and created two affordable websites for me.  Whenever I wanted something a bit out of the ordinary, he researched possible solutions and provided me with several different options.  He was very professional and helpful, and was even willing to come to my house for meetings.  Thanks Jim!"

Christopher Diggins
This site promotes Christopher's counseling and therapy services.   It makes good use of the photo gallery option.   I am particularly happy with the color scheme we chose, based on the header image.

"Jim Hyde and his Professional Services of website building and creation came in very handy for me. I had a low budget at the time and I needed a website as soon as possible. Jim came in and gave me exactly that. And although it's been a couple years my website is still operational and still meets my needs. It continues to draw just the right amount of clients that I need to keep my Psychotherapy practice up and running. I highly recommend his services especially if you're on a low budget and you want the option to do some of the work yourself Jim is the guy for you."
